As a woman in my 70's, I bought this kid's bass after seeing several positive reviews where I could see an adult playing it, who said it could be good for older folks. As a woman in my 70's, I bought this kid's bass after seeing several positive reviews where I could see an adult playing it, who said it could be good for older folks. I'm taking a jazz group and decided to replace my u-bass with this. I expect to be happy with it, but want to note several concerns. 1) The screws covering the truss rod cover spin in their holes (I've heard this stripping can happen during manufacture); 2) the strings are quite rough (for a u-bass player) so I looked into flat wound strings and discovered 3) replacement strings are very hard to find and the ONE micro-bass set of flats I found will cost me half again the price of the instrument. Plus, if I get someone to set it up for me, I'll have put more into it than it cost. (Plus purchase of a padded gigbag) But maybe that's a good deal, who knows?

This bass arrived in less than perfect shape due to a shipping snafu during literally the hottest days of the year! The fingerboard was extremely dry, and the neck was bowed. After a week of allowing the bass to acclimate to its new home, making daily small adjustments to the truss rod, it was brought into decent relief. After a week of allowing the bass to acclimate to its new home, making daily small adjustments to the truss rod, it was brought into decent relief. Daily applications of Neck Honey brought back the fretboard to acceptable condition. I leveled, crowned, and polished the frets. All of this effort was rewarded with a very easy playing and fun instrument that is great for a guitar player who occasionally picks up a bass, like me. After the basics of playability had been addressed I decided that it would be nice to have a more gutsy tonal palate on tap, so I added a MusicMan-style humbucker in place of the bridge pickup,coil split wiring, a five-way switch, master volume and separate push-pull tone pits that select caps for different tone coloring. Probably not a project that a novice would want to undertake, but it does provide an example of what can be done with this bass. The basic "bones" are good, materials solid, fit and finish is OK - nothing to complain about at this price point. Good instrument for kids or adults looking for a short scale bass.

1st time Guitar purchaser. I purchased this for my 16 year old grand daughter who wants to learn to play bass. The primary reason for this specific guitar is because she is 4'9" and I felt the smaller style would fit her stature better. She had expressed a desire to find a smaller bass as well... so this seemed like the right choice. I watched several reviews on YouTube of various small bass guitars, and this specific guitar GW101 was used by by a 12 year old young woman with the name EllenPlays ...

The primary reason for this specific guitar is because she is 4'9" and I felt the smaller style would fit her stature better. She had expressed a desire to find a smaller bass as well... so this seemed like the right choice. I watched several reviews on YouTube of various small bass guitars, and this specific guitar GW101 was used by by a 12 year old young woman with the name EllenPlaysBass and she gave it a very solid review. Neither I or my grand daughter have guitar experience, so this purchase was based more on wants, needs and price for an introduction. It must have been a winner! She got it out of the box and started to play it immediately, and her mother indicates it sounds very good. (I am in another state). She loves the Red color, and says it had no visual imperfections or issues. From order to arrival was less than 5 days.

Definitely buy it. I tuned it up and it sounds nice. My kids were playing with it for a few hours and it held pretty good.

I am working on some summer projects well away from my studio and struggled finding someone who could lower the bridge and improve the action on the acoustic electric bass available. On a hunch, I bought a whole new guitar hoping the action was better and it is both perfect and adjustable. Easier to play than my full size guitars as the frets are closer together. Sounds great. I'll be buying another one for the other coast soon and maybe a third to stay in the back of the car with the Pig Nose a ...

Nice inexpensive Microscale bass. Neck is satin and smooth. No fret ends poking out. Body is lightly finished with no grain filler or very little. A little rough to the touch. Plays fine out of the box and tuned up. For $100 great for a beginner, little kid or person with smaller hands or stature. For an experienced player like me, it's an $100 body and neck at 25.5" scale with a good balance point for the strap. It uses some standard parts, which means it can take some standard replacements. I did have to get a bridge replacement that had adjustable string space, humcancelling blade style pickups, better strap buttons, the tuners are fine, and a new wiring harness with better components. And string with a set of Ibanez Mikro 5 strings with the highest string left off to make up for the lower tension. None of this is necessary, but I want to, so I am.

When I saw the specs on this bass, I had to buy it, I am glad I did. It has great tone, especially for such a small scale. Once I did a setup on it (file the nut, adjust the bridge, adjust the truss rod, and dressed the fret ends), It plays like butter. There was a little too much hum from the pickups, but once I shielded the cavity on the back, it's dead silent. The Mahogany body, Maple neck, and Rosewood fretboard make for a great bass. Much better quality than I expected. I did have to do major adjustments for the intonation and had to file the nut slot for the E string, it was much too high. If you know how to make these adjustments, you will have a reasonably playable instrument.
